I was having a conversation with Anne about “Car Tips” and she reminisced about the one thing her father told her when she purchased her first car was to “never let your car run low on fuel and never, ever let it run out of gas.”

This was good advice as Gasoline acts as a cooling mechanism for your fuel pump. When your vehicle runs low on gasoline it can cause premature damage to your fuel system. Also, when it runs low on fuel it can cause air to be sucked into the system creating excess heat. This could cause the fuel pump to fail prematurely.

When you run your fuel system low enough or actually run out of gas; it can starve the system causing any dirt or debris in the bottom of the gas tank to be pulled into the system.
